Letter to Collaborating Organizations

The Digital Resource Foundation for the Orthotics and Prosthetics Community would like to invite you to collaborate with us on an exciting project, the O&P Virtual Library. The goal of this project is to develop a comprehensive, organized, searchable and functional digital library which will be available at no cost to all members of the Orthotics and Prosthetics community, including professionals, consumers and all who are involved in providing and receiving services.

Our hope is to work with you to make existing and future material generated by your organization more accessible to the O&P community and more valuable and useful to you. Through our close partner, oandp.com, we have the expertise and technology to help you do this at little or no expense to your organization.

Content chosen for the O&P Virtual Library will be converted from existing digital or print formats to a highly structured, flexible data storage format. Once the content is converted, the full text and images will be available with keyword search capabilities through highly visible online sources such as the Foundation web site (www.drfop.org), oandp.com, and possibly your own web site. Some of the advantages of having your content included in the O&P Virtual Library are:

  • Greatly increased accessibility for your content and exposure for your organization. Content will be available through multiple channels and in multiple formats, allowing users to view it online, print it, e-mail it, view it through handheld devices, etc. In all cases your content will be clearly branded as having come from your organization.

  • Tools to make the information more useful. Users of the library will be able to perform full text keyword searches with a variety of options, and will have other tools for managing, viewing, printing and e-mailing the information. For instance, a user may be able to quickly build a list of articles of interest, save that list or share it with others, print all the documents on the list at once, or generate a bibliography from that list.

  • Longevity and flexibility for your own uses. Your content will be converted from existing formats to a format that has much greater long term usability and value for your organization. The possibilities for displaying and distributing your information once it has been converted are virtually unlimited.

We recognize that the content that your organization generates is a valuable asset. In addition to giving your organization proper credit and exposure whenever your content is displayed, the O&P Virtual Library will have a clearly defined usage policy that recognizes your ownership rights.

We are excited about working with you to make your content more visible and useful, to the benefit of your organization and the entire orthotics and prosthetics community. We are confident that this library will provide a much greater level of access to information that is vital to improving the quality of O&P care. We will contact you in a few weeks to follow up, but please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
DRFOP Board of Directors
