 | Mission Statement To provide training and prosthetic medical supplies to the Iraqi Ministry Health Doctors and Prosthetists at the Basra, Iraq clinic. The training venue is at the King Hussein Society in Amman, Jordan. We are also conducting a limb drive to ship used components to Iraq. |
Additional Information & Comments | Partnering Rotary Clubs in Rotary’s District #7620 (68 Rotary clubs in Washington DC and Central Maryland) and other Rotary Clubs have embarked on an important all volunteer project to provide training, medical equipment and supplies to the Basra, Iraq Prosthetic Centre, a Ministry of Health Clinic in Iraq’s Basra region. The Basra Prosthetics Centre serves five districts, Basra and four others and it is estimated that there are over 5,000 amputees in that region alone (over 50,000 in all of Iraq) many of them women and children who are often victims of land mines, or other consequences of war. The training for the Iraqi Ministry of Health staff will take place at the Al-Hussein Society in Amman, Jordan and hosted by the Amman Cosmopolitan Rotary Club. In addition to providing desperately needed medical supplies and equipment to the Basra Clinic, an important aspect of this initiative is to collect used prosthetics, break them down into useful components, and send them to Iraq. It is unlawful to reuse prosthetics in the USA. All donations will be gratefully receipted by Montgomery Village Rotary Club Foundation, a registered 501©3 not-for-profit organization. Many other organizations have partnered Rotary on this project to include: Hanger Orthopedic Group, the Mosaic Foundation, and a major grant has been recently received from the US Dept. of State. The Honourary Patroness of the Project is HRH Princess Majda Raad of Jordan who is well-known internationally for her humanitarian work, particularly with persons with disabilities.
