 | Mission Statement To provide amputees with the ability to live a productive life regardless of their limb loss.
|
Additional Information & Comments | The Michigan Society To Advance Rehabilitation, Inc (M-STAR) is a non -profit organization, which was started two years ago by an amputee who needed help after his amputation, but was unable to find it. After two years of successfully assisting hundreds of amputees in Michigan and elsewhere we are embarking on another mission. OPERATION COMPASSION Operation Compassion’s goal is to travel to a different country each year with a team of prosthetist, prosthetic technicians, physical therapist and nurses. We are in close contact with several people and we have been asked to go to Mexico. Brazil and Ecuador and Chile as our first four main target countries. We plan on going in June of 2005. Our first trip will be to San Miguel, Guanajuato, Mexico. It is estimated that we will be able to help between 100 and 150 people with lower extremity amputations. We have a team already put together but we desperately need used lower limb components to fabricate the legs in Mexico. We will go down about a month before and measure all the people that we can in order to expedite the process when we go in June. We are calling upon all of you to help us with this endeavor by providing us with your used limbs so that we can use the components to fabricate legs for those in need in these third world countries. If you know of some of your patients that have lower limbs that they are not using ask them to send them to us. Please don’t send sockets they just take up room and we have to make new ones anyway We are not going to the big cities in these countries but we will be going into the jungles, mountains and small villages as well, where they are needed most. We will stay about two weeks in each country that we go to. The limbs can be sent to the following address, (make sure that you put M-STAR in big letter on the packages because they are being sent to be warehoused at a business other then M-STAR) Send to C&J parking lot sweeping, Inc 2200 E ten Mile Rd Warren, Mi 48091.
If you have any suggestions or advice please call me at 586-757-6002 or address M-Star 4973 E Ten Mile road Warren, Mi 48091. If you would be kind enough to please post this notice so your patients can see it and perhaps they can give you used limbs that they are not using or they may know of someone who has some. Thank You, Saul Morris, President M-STAR
